Growing up in the wine country of the beautiful Napa Valley with a mother who was an artist and a father who had a master’s degree in Math, I learned that creativity could be accompanied by exact precision. Such is the case when herbs and oils are studied meticulously for their attributes and effects on different skin types, carefully formulated, and then put together to form a luxurious product that makes you feel very special.

Each day was filled with wonder as tight little clusters of budding grapes transformed into plump and dewy table grapes, or a perfect rose bud opened up into a delicate flower. Later, I began to explore alternative, all-natural beauty products such as egg shampoo, and while I sat in the sun on the back steps with chamomile tea in my hair to lighten it, I could see various pots of fresh herbs or marigolds that my mother was growing. I found that there were lots of interesting things that could be done with each plant.

My spare time was spent typing up recipes on a black Royal manual typewriter. I collected recipes and formulas from all over the world. If I wanted a formula for making soap, or a recipe for baking Lithuanian Christmas cookies, I had it. There were so many recipes I had to buy a wicker chest to hold them all, and my mother began to reason with me that I would never use them all.

Next I learned weaving and basketry, and all the different ways of creating beautiful colors with natural products.

In college I had a particular interest in the sciences, and one course that I took in biochemistry thoroughly fascinated me. From this point on I was compelled to learn what effect different food particles and other substances in the environment had on all the different systems in the body. While I still collect recipes, my collection has whittled down to 100% organic food choices. It is only natural to carry this one step further to delve into completely organic skin care products. With so many toxins in our environment, there is no need to add more to our bodies.
